Peer mediation is a violence prevention program that enhances school climate and can increase academic performance as a result of a more relaxed atmosphere. Peer mediators are a diverse cadre of students selected to receive specialized training in conflict management. In addition to making the school a safer place in which to learn, the skills gained in training can be applied throughout a student's personal life.
The purpose of Peer Mediaton Assemblies are to introduce students to the school's peer mediators, to let them know what peer mediation is about, and how they can use it. This is something our school is doing to prevent arguments from escalating on the playground, as well as to get further involved with shaping their character.
