"Odyssey of the Mind" teams will, again, be organized this year in our school. Odyssey of the Mind encourages creative thinking and problem solving. Participants in this program apply creativity to solve problems that range from designing parade floats for a spectacular celebration to presenting a performance recounting aspects of ancient history, current ecological matters, or a performance of futuristic exploration. Each problem encourages the students to become risk takers, to brainstorm new or unusual ideas, to think divergently, to cooperate and appreciate others, and to employ theoretical and applied knowledge.
A team of up to seven students has approximately four to five months to exclusively solve a specified problem without outside assistance. In addition to solving one of five problem choices, the students must design an eight-minute presentation to accompany their problem solution.
Each team has a coach who acts as a facilitator to help the team reach its presentation goal. The team will present its solutions during a competition with other DoD schools.
Odyssey of the Mind is open to all students, kindergarten through sixth grade.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
